Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Mar. 5 – The second and deciding game of the $1,000,000 final match of Jeopardy! All-Stars went forward with these matchups:
– SJ: Monica (Team Ken, $32,500 carried over from game one), David (Team Brad, $36,000), Alan (Team Colby, $8,000)
– DJ: Ken, Brad, Pam (Team Colby)
– FJ: Matt (Team Ken), Larissa (Team Brad), Colby
SJ saw David expand his team’s advantage with a score of $7,400 vs. $4,000 for Alan and $3,800 for Monica.
DD1, $800 – MUSES – Thalia, the muse of bucolic poetry, carries the staff of these workers (David won $1,000)
In DJ, it was pretty much all she wrote after Brad found and was correct on both DDs. Brad cruised into FJ with a two-day runaway with $34,000. Ken had second money under control at $16,200 while Pam ended the round at $9,600.
DD2, $1,600 – TO THE LIGHTHOUSE – The ancient lighthouse on this island was so well known that the island’s name became a synonym for lighthouse (Brad won $5,000)
DD3, $1,600 – COLONIAL AMERICA – The 1764 Sugar Act taxed molasses imports to help pay for this recently concluded war (Brad won $10,000)
FJ – CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT MATH – Total of the numbers of the amendments banning state-sponsored official religion, ending slavery & repealing Prohibition
Everyone was correct on FJ, for which the response had a special connection to the show’s history. Only Colby wagered anything at all ($7,001 to finish at $16,601 for a two-day total of $24,601 in tribute to Jean Valjean), with Team Brad ($70,000) taking home the $1,000,000, Team Ken ($48,700) earning $300,000 and Team Colby leaving with $100,000.
Triple Stumper of the day: In SJ, no one guessed a piece of evidence that helps solve a crime is a clue.
Contestant editorial dept.: Upon hearing the correct response to a clue being Denny’s, Monica went “Ugh!”, which might have been because she previously missed by saying IHOP rather than reflecting her opinion of Denny’s.
Fantasy update: Though it hardly makes up for not winning the tournament, Ken took top honors at 54, followed by Alex at 49 and Larissa with 47.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – What are shepherds?
DD2 – What is Pharos?
DD3 – What is the French and Indian War?
FJ – What is 35? (1 + 13 + 21, adding up to the current season of Trebek’s Jeopardy!)
