This week’s prompt: The dreaded earworm

Do they drive you insane? What starts them? What stops them? Is it from something you like or can’t stand? Do they recur or do you get a lot of variety?

A fun one that happens to your music thread host is that the GBV song “Motor Away” pops in my head whenever I’m about to head off on a long, fun drive. And it will stay there until I play it. Always in the car and at the start of the trip. I’m not the biggest GBV fan, but this song captures that feeling of the wide open, new scenery, and endless possibilities.

One that drives me insane is the first six notes of Tull’s “Aqualung.” You know it. “Sitting on the park bench.” However, the lyrics become whatever I am doing at that moment in time, and tends to happen while doing chores, though sometimes randomly as well. “Vacuuming the carpet”, “Wiping up the counter”. You get it. Unfortunately so do I. And I’m not even a fan. It’s maddening.
