Welcome to the Book Nook! This is the weekly thread for Avocados to discuss books we’re currently reading, recommendations, genre, and serious literary criticism.
This week’s recommended discussion: This is more me musing than a real discussion topic, but sound off if it inspires your thoughts in any way. As the year winds down, and the one-two punch of Christmas and New Year’s fast approaches, it’s the natural time to look ahead and look behind. The next couple of weeks of Book Nook topics will reflect that. In this week, starting with best-ofs, it’s a good time to catch my breath and take stock. I have read more books published this year than ever before, and a big part of that is that my library moves up its hold list pretty quickly. I haven’t raided my own TBR pile in months, so I hope to get back to that next year.
Don’t forget to vote for your favorite books of 2018. The Pits post for books will be open until 12/21. Next week we can talk about the best books we read in 2018, but not necessarily published in 2018.
One caveat: because we’re here to use our words, this is a NO GIF/YouTube/social media embed zone (the OTs are full of clutter, and I want to keep that out of this thread).
12/19: favorite reads of the year
12/26: holiday free skate
1/2: resolutions and/or looking forward to in 2019
1/9: hate a beloved series and other literary hot takes (h/t Bluelightspecial)
1/16: narrator with no name (h/t Beasterly)
