Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Nov. 16 – The last game of round two of the Teen Tournament featured these players:
– Rohan, a senior from North Carolina, is a health care clinic volunteer;
– Emma, a junior from Maryland, learned to deal with difficult people by milking goats; and
– Audrey, a senior from Indiana, helps out sick kids.
After a slow start, Emma took control with the help of correct responses to the first two DDs. Audrey had the opportunity to take the lead with a big bet on DD3, but she made a modest wager and remained in third going into FJ with $12,400 vs. $18,000 for Emma and $15,000 for Rohan.
DD1 – FICTIONAL PLACES – In a 1516 work Sir Thomas More coined this word for an ideal place (Emma won $2,000)
DD2 – ‘TEENS IN HISTORY – This Mongolian took a break from BBQ-ing China in 1218 to take out an empire in what’s now Uzbekistan & Turkmenistan (Emma won $2,000)
DD3 – STATE FACTS – As Georgia has had 5 capitals, including Milledgeville & this seaport, its first (Audrey won $3,000 – at the time she was in third place with $8,600 vs. $16,000 for Emma, so an all-in bet was the clear play here.)
FJ – MAMMALS – Scientific name Mellivora Capensis, this 2-word weasel family member was named “Most Fearless Mammal”
Emma was the only player correct on FJ, adding $12,001 to win with $30,001 and earn the chance to face Claire and Maya in the two-day final. Audrey gave up the chance for a possible Triple Stumper victory by betting everything.
Triple Stumpers of the day: The players didn’t know the NFL team of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott is the Dallas Cowboys, or that the troupe associated with “Mystere”, “Ka” and “O’ is Cirque du Soleil.
DD1 – What is Utopia?
DD2 – Who was Genghis Khan?
