Best Video Game Tournament – Early Years – Round Two

This is the round of 32 for the Early Years generation of video games, covering pre-85 games including the Atari 2600, Intellivision, ColecoVision.

Please vote for one game in each pairing.

The most upvoted games will continue to the Round of 16.

  • The most upvoted game was Donkey Kong, which benefits from both being one of the most instantly recognizable Nintendo titles and from a matchup with Hunt the Wumpus, which is an interesting game historically, but not as well-known. Incidentally, I’ve only played a version of Hunt the Wumpus as a part of the webgame Kingdom of Loathing. This was also the biggest blowout of the round.
  • The least upvoted game was Seaquest, which barely made it through the elimination round and was pitted against the iconic Asteroids.
  • The least upvoted game to make it to the next round was Sinistar, famous for its dramatic voice clips, which had a fairly close match against Yar’s Revenge.
  • The most upvoted game to lose was Millipede, pitted against Tapper in what was also the closest match of the round, with only two votes separating them. As I noted yesterday in the comments, Tapper is a personal favorite of the era and a predecessor to today’s time management style games.

Voting ends 10PM EST.
