The Book Nook

Welcome to the Book Nook! This is the weekly thread for Avocados to discuss books we’re currently reading, recommendations, genre, and serious literary criticism.

This week’s recommended discussion: favorite book store or library. Do you have a favorite local bookstore, a place with a great used selection or can’t-miss author events? Does your local library have interesting art or events? How about a favorite destination bookstore?

The Tattered Cover is a Denver institution, and before Amazon, it was the best place to find every book imaginable. From complete collections of canon to funky finds, it was the ultimate destination for book lovers. I was watching a CSPAN show on the Denver book scene, and found out that The Tattered Cover’s color palette of dark green carpet, dark wood shelving, and brass accents was copied by Barnes & Noble when they started to grow in the 1970s.

One caveat: because we’re here to use our words, this is a NO GIF/YouTube/social media embed zone (the OTs are full of clutter, and I want to keep that out of this thread).
