Last night I fell in love with Joe Pera Talks With You, an Adult-Swim-meets-PBS show about a middle school choir teacher who finds the little things in life pleasurable.
Joe attempts to talk to you, the viewer, about things that he finds interesting, such as large wooden domes, rotating cake cases, and pre-1920s sheet music, and while the arrival of new factors in his life, such as noisy neighbors and a friendly choir teacher, intrude upon his presentations, he never loses his sense of warmth and optimism.
Pera uses dry delivery to create a charming and hilarious character that sucks everyone around him, including you, into his bizarre and unique world over the course of the 9-episode, 110-minute season. By the end, you’ll have watched something hilarious, yet also profound and eye-opening- the best show of 2018 so far.
It also has the best use of “Baba O’Riley” in cinematic history.
