Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Jun. 8 – Introducing today’s contestants:
– John, an attorney from Illinois, who narrated a film about Mongolian contortionism;
– David, a student from Massachusetts, who has a license to drill – bones, that is; and
– Mirza, a transcriber from Toronto, Canada, who falsely claimed to have seen “Die Hard” to seem cool. Mirza is a one-day champ with winnings of $28,200.
The game started turning around when Mirza missed DD2 while on the lead, then David was correct on DD3, moving into first place shortly thereafter. David showed the way into FJ with $16,800 vs. $13,000 for Mirza and $8,600 for John.
DD1 – ITALY BEFORE THE ROMANS – About 600 B.C. the Insubres, a tribe in Northern Italy, founded Mediolanum, today this city (Mirza won $1,000)
DD2 – O YE OF LITTLE FAITH – In Nietzsche’s “The Parable of the Madman”, “And we have killed him” follows this famous three-word sentence (Mirza lost $2,000)
DD3 – PSYCHOLOGY – It’s genetics or upbringing in this classic debate of 2 words with the same second syllable (David won $2,400)
FJ – LITERARY SETTINGS – Ashdown Forest in Sussex inspired this fictional setting for a 1926 collection of stories for children
David and Mirza were correct on FJ, with David making a healthy bet of $14,800 to win with $31,600.
Triple Stumper of the day: No one recognized the “President’s backyard”, the South Lawn.
Missing the layup: For a clue about a 1970 Chicago hit, even after John offered “5 or 6 to 4”, his opponents couldn’t come up with “25 or 6 to 4”.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex’s impression of Dracula was much better than his Rocky, the Flying Squirrel. Also, even though game show winnings aren’t taxed in Canada, Trebek doesn’t advise future contestants to move there for that reason.
DD1 – What is Milan?
DD2 – What is “God is dead”?
DD3 – What is nature vs. nurture?
FJ – What is the Hundred Acre Wood?
