Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jun. 7 – Today’s contestants are:
– Andy, a math instructor from Iowa City, IA, who is a fourth-generation Jeopardy! fan;
– Mirza, a transcriber from Toronto, Canada, who had zombies walking by his wedding; and
– Michelle, a PhD candidate from Cambridge, MA, who works with what some call drones (but she doesn’t). Michelle is a one-day champ with winnings of $18,401.
Michelle drew close to Mirza with a correct response to DD2, but Mirza dominated the rest of the way, drawing off to an easy runaway with $21,200 vs. $6,400 for Michelle. Andy missed his chance to climb out of the hole on DD3, ending at -$2,600 and out of FJ (especially sad given his interview story).
DD1 – IT’S HYPHENATED – This city is home to Hanesbrands, the Hanes Mall and Wake Forest University (Andy lost $1,000)
DD2 – I LAKE IT LIKE THAT – Convention-al wisdom says this crescent-shaped lake was formed by the Rhone River’s natural damming (Michelle won $2,000)
DD3 – BRAND AWARENESS – This clothing store chain once had “Travel & Safari Clothing Co.” as part of its name (Andy lost $2,000)
FJ – MEDIEVAL SCIENCE – 13th c. emperor Frederick II’s “De Arte Venandi Cum Avibus” was the first work written about this -ology
Only Mirza was correct on FJ, adding $7,000 to win with $28,200.
Triple Stumper of the day: Even after being given the word “water”, no one recognized a photo of an American Water Spaniel.
TV troubles: The players were stumped by clues about “Sunday Night Football” announcer Al Michaels and Archie Bunker actor Carroll O’Connor. Also, a reference to its legendary theme song didn’t lead them to 1963’s no. 1 show, “The Beverly Hillbillies”.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex did an impression of a whining Lucille Ball and shared that he is dissipating.
DD1 – What is Winston-Salem, NC?
DD2 – What is Lake Geneva?
DD3 – What is Banana Republic?
FJ – What is ornithology?
