Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Jun. 4 – Introducing today’s contestants:
– Tommy, an English teacher from Brooklyn, NY, whose 15-year-old students are too young to have read Dickens and get the significance of his last name Fagin;
– Leslie, a bookseller from Vancouver, WA, whose husband wants a chicken coop; and
– Ian, a trade specialist from Washington, DC, who made $30 for his movie appearance. Ian is a one-day champ with winnings of $23,201.
Ian found both DDs in DJ but wound up with a net loss of $1,000 on them, which helped Leslie regain the lead on the very last clue. Leslie showed the way into FJ with $12,600 vs. $12,000 for Tommy and $11,000 for Ian.
DD1 – MAMA TRIED – If John Surratt hadn’t befriended this actor, his mama Mary probably wouldn’t have been tried and hanged (Tommy won $1,400 on a true DD.)
DD2 – COUNTRY FACTS – Morocco’s official languages are Tamazight and this (Ian won $3,000)
DD3 – THE DISASTER ARTISTS – In 1895’s “What an Unbranded Cow Has Cost”, this artist depicts the brutal cattle wars of the West (Ian lost $4,000)
FJ – AMERICAN QUOTES – In a 1789 letter, Benjamin Franklin relates the durability of the new Constitution to these two things
Everyone missed FJ, with Ian throwing away the game by betting everything from a close third place, while Tommy also overbet, dropping to $1. As a result, Leslie got a gift of a win worth a mere $599 after her $12,001 wager.
Triple Stumpers of the day: In the words ending with “it” category, no one knew the first word in TV’s “Survivor” motto is “outwit”, or the 2017 “Wonder” movie set in 1950s Coney Island is “Wonder Wheel”.
One more thing: Buzzy was in the audience showing off his Jeopardy! championship belt, while a defiant Alex let the world know he’s not yielding the podium to Buzzy anytime soon.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Booth? DD2 – What is Arabic? DD3 – Who was Remington? FJ – What is “death and taxes”?
