Queen Jane Seymour Day Thread

On this day in 1536, King Henry VIII married for the third time. He had annulled his first marriage with Catherine of Aragon and had his second wife, Anne Boleyn, executed for treason. Jane Seymour, who had been a lady-in-waiting for both Catherine and Anne, married Henry just 10 days after Anne’s death.

Jane bore Henry’s only legitimate son, Edward, on October 12 1537. She died on October 24 due to complications from the birth. Jane was the only one of Henry’s wives to receive a queen’s funeral, and she is the one buried next to Henry in the chapel at Windsor Castle.
