Welcome! The purpose of this thread is to talk about all things related to the wonderful world of musical theatre. Each week (or so) I will post a thread with a topic/question for everyone to respond to. This is also a great place to mention any new musicals you’ve discovered and/or general recommendations for other musical fans. Heard/seen any good shows lately? Have any theatre news to share? Tell us about it!
I had planned on writing a long, detailed post this week about one of my favorite musicals. However, I suddenly have a million things I need to do before I leave you all for the next couple of weeks to travel across the ocean to Japan. So, with little time to plan, but with a very strong desire to post at least one more thread before I go on vacation…what are you favorite Shakespeare-inspired musicals? Or, if that doesn’t inspire much conversation, what are your favorite productions of Shakespeare plays that you’ve seen? Really, we can’t talk about Shakespeare without talking about plays too!
I’ll admit that I haven’t really seen any standout Shakespeare productions, and I don’t have any strong feelings towards any of the Shakespeare-inspired musicals I’ve heard. But I haven’t seen that many, and I haven’t heard that many. The header image is from Kiss Me, Kate because I’ve listened to that one a few times and like the songs, but I’ve never really paid much attention to what’s happening in the story. That’s one that I should probably revisit. But, really, I have very little to say, so I’ll open the floor to all of you. Let’s talk about Shakespeare!
Oh, and speaking of Shakespeare, keep an eye out for Terrible Renegade LibraryLass’s upcoming Avocado production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can read up on the project here. This is by far my favorite Shakespeare play, so I’m very excited to see the finished product.
