Stigma-Free Day Thread

May is Mental Health Awareness Month here in the U.S. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of stigma around having a mental illness, which is why the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) came up with an initiative called “StigmaFree.” Here are some of their suggestions for avoiding mental illness stigma in your language:

Yours Truly has been battling Depression on-and-off for 14 years. I’d like to say #nostigma, but I honestly usually don’t tell people In Real Life until I get to know them pretty well. So you all should consider yourselves lucky. 😉

Mental Illness is much like any other illness, in that it’s not the ill person’s fault. It can also strike anyone, at any time. There shouldn’t be stigma or shame around it. And remember:
