The Thursday Politics Thread Pleads the Fifth

Morning politocadoes!

As we well know by now, Michael Cohen is pleading the fifth in the Stormy Daniels lawsuit. .This is not uncommon in civil or criminal litigation. I mean, what sort of stable genius could possibly have an issue with pleading the fifth?

“The mob takes the Fifth,” Trump said at one campaign rally, according to the Associated Press. “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”

Anyway, this is after Cohen’s lawyers argued last week for a pause in the case due to potential overlap with the federal investigation. It seems to be a part of a larger strategy to have more time to review some of the seized materials from Cohen’s offices. The judge has yet to make a decision.

Had to use the gif and the headline. But rest assured, I’m sure we’ll be using them several times in the coming months (years?)

Meanwhile! Ben Carson has been roused from his nap, possibly cranky, he’s going to triple the rent  and impose work requirements on low-income families receiving federal subsidies. Carson’s proposal would raise the rent  in subsidized housing to 35 percent of gross income.  Nearly half of the 4.7 million American families receiving these subsidies would be affected. Like how Jesus would want to treat the poor! But what do I know? I’m just a guy on the Internet, and he’s a guy with a painting of him and Jesus bein’ bros.

It is just a proposal however. So fortunately, it doesn’t just happen. Unfortunately, it does requires Congressional approval from a Republican controlled Congress. So…same difference?

Finally, in this little news roundup, Emanuel Macron, the Lancelot to our “Stable Genius” of a King Arthur, threw down the gauntlet at a joint session of Congress today. Speaking of the “illusion of Nationalism” and to “make our planet great again” because “there is no planet B”. He condemned Trumpism in all its’ horrific forms. He reprimanded the US for not standing up for democracy and not standing against tyranny. He demanded that we stay on the course of multilateralism that we started the world on. He vowed that France will not pull out of the Iran Deal.  He condemned fake news and made a plea towards rationality.

One can only hope Congress will listen

Ron Howard Narration: They wouldn’t.

Welcome To Thursday! Be excellent to each other. The Mayor McSquirrel Rule is in effect. No wishing of harm or fatal injury upon public figures no matter how much we might disagree with their views.
