Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Apr. 19

Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Apr. 19 – Here are the contestants for the two-day final of this year’s College Championship:

– Dhruv, a freshman at Brown, who knows all about pain;
– Hannah, a sophomore at UCF, who thinks it’s entirely possible younger people are getting smarter (but the right categories are important too); and
– William, a freshman at Tufts, who likes paying attention, remembering things and impressing people (which certainly impressed Alex).

It was tight every step of the way through the end of DJ, with Dhruv leading into FJ with $18,000 vs. William at $16,600 and Hannah with $15,600.

DD1 – GETTING HISTORICAL – On September 25, 1950 U.S. Marines retook this Asian capital city (Dhruv won $2,800 on a true DD.)

DD2 – STRAIGHT “A”s IN SCIENCE – Immunoglobulins, which attack foreign substances inside you, are aka these (Dhruv won $3,000)

DD3 – WORLD PLAYS – This 5-letter Greek tragedy from Euripides is not a good choice for Mother’s Day (William won $6,000)

FJ – U.S. HISTORIC SITES – Its official seal includes the year 1864 for when it was established, a folded flag & a scroll inscribed “Our Most Sacred Shrine”

After such a fantastic first two rounds by all three players, amazingly FJ was a Triple Stumper.

Dhruv and Hannah both made mid-sized wagers, losing $9,000 and $8,000 respectively, while William bet everything and dropped to $0. So Dhruv will have $9,000 added to his score in game two while Hannah will take $7,600 into her final score to determine the $100,000 winner.

Triple Stumper of the day: The players had never heard the old chestnut directed at loafing workers, “If you’ve got time to lean, you’ve got time to clean”.

That’s before our time: No one remembered the school-set Wes Anderson movie that stars Bill Murray, “Rushmore”.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex, perhaps anticipating that the game might end quickly and time would need to be filled, oddly made William repeat his chit-chat story.

Correct Qs:

DD1 – What is Seoul?
DD2 – What are antibodies?
DD3 – What is “Medea”?
FJ – What is Arlington National Cemetery?
