Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Apr. 18

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Apr. 18 – One of the following will face William and Hannah in the two-day final of this year’s College Championship:

– Alli, a sophomore at WPI, who won an award for first-year excellence at her school;
– Rishab, a freshman at Georgia Tech, who can make an exception to get Alex into his prestigious honors group; and
– Dhruv, a freshman at Brown, who was a teaching assistant at a Hindi language camp.

Dhruv appeared to be in command when he moved to the front with a correct response to DD2. Then after a pair of incorrect guesses by Dhruv, Alli made a big move in an entertainment category and led into FJ with $16,800 vs. $13,400 for Dhruv and $12,000 for Rishab.

DD1 – CLASSIC KIDS’ BOOKS – Kids really dig this 1998 book featuring Stanley Yelnats & Zero, 2 of the young inmates at Camp Green Lake (Dhruv won $1,000 on a true DD.)

DD2 – BARBARIANS AT THE GATES – These barbarians whose name means “destroyer” crossed the Rhine River & sacked Rome in 455 A.D. (Dhruv won $4,000)

DD3 – “R” TOWN – This North Carolina city founded in 1792 is named for a man who died in 1618 (Rishab won $5,200 on a true DD.)

FJ – THE LATIN VULGATE BIBLE – In Latin Jesus says, I am “via et veritas et vita” — in English, these 3 words

Dhruv was the only player correct on FJ, adding $6,600 to advance with $20,000.

Note that by betting $6,600, Dhruv risked getting passed by a possible big bet and correct response Rishab. Since Dhurv must have thought that a small bet by Rishab was a distinct possibility, he might have considered wagering less than $1,400 to force Rishab to be right on FJ.

Triple Stumpers of the day: In a category about definitions, the players didn’t know a German emperor is a “kaiser”, or that a breakfast batter cake word that also is used for equivocating is “waffle”.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex rode the emotional roller coaster from getting “teary-eyed” at the end of the previous game to having it “stuck” to him today.

Correct Qs:

DD1 – What is “Holes”?
DD2 – Who were the Vandals?
DD3 – What is Raleigh?
FJ – What are way, truth, life?
