Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Apr. 12 – These are the contestants for day four of the College Championship:
– Carsen, a senior at Vanderbilt, who has a triple-major in biology, Russian language and film studies;
– Rebecca, a sophomore at Swarthmore, who wants to be a museum curator; and
– Harry, a senior at U. of Chicago, who won the “Mr. University” title with a magic show.
Rebecca led at every commerical break, drew away early in DJ in the Broadway Musicals category and cruised to a runaway score of $23,000. Harry barely got out of the red at $600 going into FJ, so the only suspense was if Carsen could move into wild card contention by improving on her $6,200 total.
DD1 – I WILL NOT SERVE… – This Union general refused to run for President, stating, “Will not serve” if elected; he wouldn’t have carried Georgia (Harry won $1,000)
DD2 – BROADWAY MUSICALS – We’d like to “point” out that George in “Sunday in the Park with George” is this famous French artist (Rebecca won $5,000)
DD3 – TALES FROM “THE ARABIAN NIGHTS” – Several of the stories are set in this city, capital of the Muslim world in the 8th century and still a capital today (Rebecca won $3,000)
FJ – LANDMARKS – In 1546 architect Pierre Lescot began rebuilding King Francis I’s palace, which is now this museum
Only Rebecca was correct on FJ and she stood pat with her $26,000. Carsen lost $4,200 to finish at $2,000 and was eliminated from the tournament, as was Harry, who dropped $200 to wind up at $400.
So going into the final game of this round, the scores to beat for a wild card spot are $12,399 and $6,600, while making it into the next round for sure as wild cards are Thatcher ($21,599) and William ($19,999).
Triple Stumpers of the day: Surprisingly, three College Championship players couldn’t name the sixth President, John Quincy Adams. They also didn’t know that Decatur and Dubuque are counties in Iowa, or that the food-related discomfort also called dyspepsia is indigestion.
No harm no foul: Everyone took an incorrect guess on the country that is linked to Pakistan by the Khyber Pass, Afghanistan.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Sherman?
DD2 – Who was Seurat?
DD3 – What is Baghdad?
FJ – What is the Louvre?
