Jeopardy! recap for Fri. Apr. 6 – Here are today’s contestants:
– Dominick, a consultant from Washington, D.C., who studied in France and took home a recipe book;
– Andrews, an actor and writer from Sherman Oaks, CA, who studied acting in Prague; and
– Kristin, an attorney from Red Bank, NJ, of whose taste in 80s horror movies Alex doesn’t seem to approve. Kristin is a one-day champ with winnings of $36,399.
No one really got rolling in this low-scoring affair in which all three DDs were missed. Kristin was able to secure a runaway with just $8,600 vs. $3,400 for Dominick and $1,600 for Andrews.
DD1 – ANCIENT STUFF – Epicetus was a leading thinker of this stonefaced group & his philosophic talks influenced Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Kristin lost $1,000)
DD2 – WOMEN POETS – Often compared to another New England poet Maxine Kumin was dubbed this, the female equivalent of his name (Andrews lost $2,600 on a true DD.)
DD3 – NATIONAL RHYME TIME – A strategy in Darfur (Dominick lost $2,000)
FJ – CENTRAL AMERICAN GEOGRAPHY – One active, one dormant, Madera & Concepcion are volcanoes in this body of water that shares its name with a country
Only Andrews was correct on FJ, so if he could have avoided just a few of his many incorrect guesses during the game he would have come out on top. As it played out, Kristin only bet $5 to win with $8,595 and a two-day total of $44,994. She’ll return after the upcoming two-week College Tournament.
Triple Stumper of the day: Being told that he was silent film’s “Sheik” didn’t help the players identify a photo of Rudolph Valentino.
Pavlov: Sinclair Lewis character involved with religion = Elmer Gantry.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex opened the show by saying, “Like the stock market, on Jeopardy! every day brings some kind of new record” on a day the Dow dropped 572 points.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who were the Stoics?
DD2 – What is Roberta Frost? (Andrews misread the clue and responded “Robert Frost”.)
DD3 – What is a Sudan plan?
FJ – What is Lake Nicaragua?
