Sports Corner – April 4

And so the college basketball season ends.  On the men’s side, the unlikely gave way, as it usually does, to the inevitable as Villanova, hailed as the favorite a month ago, won with utter ease.  On the women’s side, the inevitable gave way to the unlikely, as UConn was once again derailed on its path to perfection, and as a young woman no one outside of diehard fans of the sport or of Notre Dame had ever heard of.  But today Arike Ogunbowale, daughter of Nigerian immigrants, stands atop the sports world following her two game winning clutch shots.  I for one will happily take the unexpected over the inevitable.

Elsewhere…

  • The Masters is upon us, and word has it that there are other golfers competing besides Tiger.  But I could be wrong.
  • The NHL and NBA regular seasons are nearly done.  Which is good since I can’t find any reason to care about them.
  • Baseball season has begun.  Gabe Kapler is the laughingstock of the week.  The Yankees might use just two outfielders since all the others are hurt (but when those two are Judge and Stanton, do you need any others?).  And apparently bunting when the shift is on is now against the unwritten rules.
  • Will the Giants trade OBJ?

As always, all sports topics welcome.
