Or, General Cover Art you Like Thread
Yesterday, Pitchfork posted an article called “6 Pitchfork Staffers on the Best Albums They Found Based on the Cover Art” It’s exactly what it sounds like.
I suppose crate digging ain’t what it used to be, but that doesn’t mean that an album can’t catch our eye based on an image. That’s especially true now that we can instantly listen to it.
So, post that cover art that caught your eye and had the music to back it up. Or, just post your favorite cover art. That’s always fun too.
Here’s some of mine.
Charlatan – Night Circus
I had heard of Charlatan before, and even had some split cassettes they were featured on, but this cover can’t help but catch your eye when browsing through bandcamp (sadly, it seems to have disappeared from there, now). I have no clue where they got this image, but everything about it is evocatively inscrutable. Much like the music contained within.
Autechre – Tri Repetae++
It’s nearly impossible to find a good scan of this, which is totally appropriate because this is definitely one of those covers that needs to be experienced in its physical manifestation. If Night Circus is mysterious, tri repetae is impenetrable. Once you take off the shrink wrap, you’re left with just the color. Front and back. There’s information inside, but the outside is deliciously obscured. What’s always struck me about the cover is the choice in color is absolutely spot on. If this was plain white, or plain black it would imply something else about the music. But the color is much more neutral than that. And as I said, it’s nearly impossible to replicate this digitally.
