Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Mar. 13

Jeopardy! recap for Tur., Mar. 13 – Let’s meet today’s contestants:

– McKayle, an attorney from Washington, D.C., who in a geography bee should have followed her father’s advice to “just say Guatemala”;
– Paris, an entrepreneur from N. Hollywood, CA, an avid backpacker through 61 countries ; and
– Zach, an investment analyst from Hoover, AL, whose wedding anniversary is tomorrow, “Pi Day”. Zach is a one-day champ with winnings of $29,000.

Paris had a chance to move from third to first on DD3 late in the game, but only bet enough to knock himself out of contention when he missed. Going into FJ it was Zach with $13,600 vs. $9,600 for McKayle and $3,400 for Paris.

DD1 – “BEN-HUR” – After an act of heroism, Ben-Hur appears before this emperor whose name relates to the river of Rome (Paris won $4,000 on a true DD.)

DD2 – ENTERTAINMENT 2017 – In 2017 Bill Murray made news when he attended this Broadway musical and then, of course, came back the next night (McKayle lost $2,000)

DD3 – STRAIT AWAY – The south end of the East China Sea is the strait named for this island (Paris lost $5,000 – at the time he had $7,200 vs. $13,600 for Zach. An all-in bet and correct response would have won the game for him, but his $5,000 bet would have left him just short.)

FJ – 1950s FICTION – The New York Times called this 1,000-page novel by a woman “one of the most influential business books ever written”

The show’s endless love affair with this particular book continued on FJ, with Zach and Paris being correct. Zach picked up $5,601 to win with $19,201 and a two-day total of $48,201. Note that McKayle should have made a small wager to shut out Paris and cost herself second money when she bet it all and missed.

Triple Stumpers of the day: No one knew the island associated with Hemingway is Cuba or the legendary water-carrier of the Revolutionary War is Molly Pitcher.

One more thing: For a clue about the late rocker, I assume they would have accepted “Would you say that to Tom Petty?”

Correct Qs:

DD1 – Who is Tiberius?
DD2 – What is “Goundhog Day”?
DD3 – What is Taiwan?
FJ – What is “Atlas Shrugged”?
