It should come as little surprise that Alien came as close to a sweep as we’ve seen, winning Best Snubbed Picture, Best Snubbed Director for Ridley Scott, Best Snubbed Actress with Sigourney Weaver a near-unamimous choice (Weaver had 19 votes; Diane Keaton got four for Manhattan, the lowest showing ever for a runner-up in the category; the other nominees got only one or two votes), Best Snubbed Supporting Actor for Ian Holm (and four of the six nominations were for Alien), and Best Cast.
Rounding out the winners Best Snubbed Actor Martin Sheen for Apocalypse Now, Best Snubbed Supporting Actress Bernadette Peters for The Jerk, Moonraker for Best Stuntwork, and Frank Oz beating out Jim Henson for Best Voicework in The Muppet Movie.
Now onto 1978, a year of highs (The Deer Hunter, which dominated at the Oscars), and lows (the infamous Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band). And, of course, plenty of snubs. As always, you can upvote as many films and performances as you feel are deserving, and add your own suggestions to any category. Please keep comments to the comments thread to keep things from getting cluttered. Top five vote-getters in each category will be our nominees, who we’ll vote on next week.
