YOUR BOX OFFICE NUMBERS (from Box Office Mojo)
- Black Panther
- Red Sparrow
- Death Wish
- Game Night
- Peter Rabbit
It would have been nice to have a full slate of movie titles that are just Color + Animal, but I guess you’d have to decide what animals “Night” and “Wish” are, or what colors “Death,” “Game,” and “Peter” are.
Black Panther has now crossed the $500M mark, while this week’s new entries, Red Sparrow and Death Wish, opened to less than half their budgets. (In the case of Red Sparrow, it’s less than a quarter.) If you weren’t in the mood to relive Cold War spy shit or 1970s-style vigilante killing sprees, well, you’re probably better for it.
Peter Rabbit lost exactly 100 theaters, while Annihilation gained exactly 100 theaters. I want to believe they’re the same 100 theaters.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, slipping one spot to seventh, now stands just shy of $400M. It and The Greatest Showman continue to post modest, 20%-ish drops. In comparison, Annihilation, Fifty Shades Freed (last week’s #5) and Every Day (last week’s #7) have all lost about 50% since last week. And Game Night, last week’s high opener, is down 38% even though it gained 14 theaters.
