YOUR BOX OFFICE NUMBERS (from Box Office Mojo)
- Black Panther
- Game Night
- Peter Rabbit
- Annihilation
- Fifty Shades Freed
Black Panther continued to dominate the box office in its second week, with a $108M take that brought its total to $400M and left little for newcomers. Game Night, the party-game-gone-wrong comedy starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams, opened in second with $16.6M against a $37M budget. Annihilation, loosely adapted from the sci-fi novel of the same name, opened in fourth with $11M against a $40M budget. You’d think there’d be a market for a movie where the cast just walks into a forbidden zone to get away from the bullshit of the outside world, but apparently not. Annihilation‘s per-screen take was better than Game Night‘s, though, $5,467 vs. $4,759.
Every Day, the first new feature from the resurrected Orion Pictures, opened in ninth with $3.1M on a modest $4.9M budget. Fifty Shades Freed dropped an even 60% to fifth place, and also somehow cost $15M more than Annihilation did to make. In seventh, The 15:17 to Paris continues to drop, but has grossed back its production budget. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Greatest Showman, now in their 10th week, continue to do respectable business in sixth and eighth place, respectively.
