The Thursday Politics Thread Needs Empathy Note Cards

And the children shall lead us.

A little over a week since the Parkland Shooting and the outrage has not died down. Survivors of the tragedy and protesters blocked the steps of the capitol building in Tallahassee,  eloquently brought their grievances to the President at the White House, and finally, thoroughly, completely owned Senator Who is Most Likely To Still Be Running on Windows ME, Marco Rubio in a CNN Town Hall Debate. These students are fearless. Whether it’s their age, or its the immediacy of the tragedy, or the environment they’ve grown up in, it seems like they’ve only begun to fight. The ineptitude and contempt on display at the town hall, from Rubio and NRA spokesghoul Dana Loesch respectively, should only fuel their desire for true meaningful change. Godspeed. I know I’ll be with ’em at least in spirit when the nationwide March For Our Lives protests start on March 24th.

The response from Republican lawmakers and, Trump in particular, have been particularly uninspiring.  The AP snapped a photo of him at the “Listening Session” with notes, not necessarily talking points more like canned lines to make him empathetic such as “I hear you.”, a phrase as meaningless as it is redundant at a Listening Session. Worse still, was his proposal: to arm and train 20% of school teachers in every school in the country. There’s an idea! Certainly an idea, not necessarily a good one or a cost-prohibitive one, but its certainly an idea! Insane logistics aside, this would almost certainly lead to more, not less people getting shot.  Why it’s even being debated like it’s a serious policy proposal shows how far we are from fucking normal in this country right now.

Anyway, the debate continues on. The Parks and Rec team continues to give the NRA shit on twitter after Spokesghoul Dana Loesch used a gif of Leslie Knope to thank people for her time at the town hall debate. And I…just…. NO.

Welcome to Thursday, peeps! Be excellent to each other. Mayor McSquirrel rule is in effect even if he is completely lacking in empathy. Get a comment caught in moderation, please contact our Mods!
