Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Feb. 21

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Feb. 21 – Let’s meet today’s contestants:

– Bryan, a stay-at-home dad from Indianapolis, IN, whose daughter appeared on Kids Week in 2014 and probably made sure how to spell “emancipation”;
– Kristy, a media strategist from Louisville, KY, whose dad wrote embarrassing stuff about the family in the newspaper; and
– Rob, an escalation manager from Edina, MN, who has made a small fortune with the help of a toilet paper holder. Rob is a five-day champ with winnings of $113,899.

Rob made a strong wager on DD2 to climb into runaway territory and Kristy wasn’t quite able to close the gap, so Rob couldn’t be caught going into FJ with $21,600 vs. $10,000 for Kristy. Bryan spent most of the game in the red, finishing at -$2,200 and out of FJ.

DD1 – YOU KNOW MY NAME – World Book puts the dates on the life of this labor union leader as (1913-1975?) (Kristy won $2,600 on a true DD.)

DD2 – 5-LETTER PALENDROMES – Used operationally by the Brits beginning in 1935, it helped against German air attacks (Rob won $7,000)

DD3 – CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE – Underground passageways made movement easy in these Roman places with rooms like frigidariums and tepidariums (Bryan lost $2,000)

FJ – WORLD WAR I – Site of an arduous WWi campaign, this town on the Dardanelles gets its name from the Greek for “beautiful city”

Everyone missed FJ and Rob dropped $1,599 to win with $20,001 and a six-day total of $133,900.

Note that with Rob’s $7,000 wager on DD2 when he had $12,200 vs. $8,400 for Kristy, he vastly reduced the chances of Kristy being able to stay within two-thirds of his score. This was especially important since Bryan was far back, so Rob’s bet ensured that even if he didn’t hold the runaway, Kristy would have to be correct on FJ to win.

Triple Stumpers of the day: No one got the home of Robin Hood’s law enforcement enemy as Nottingham, or Comedy Central’s “bra-mance” sitcom with Abbi and Ilana, “Broad City”.

Correct Qs:

DD1 – Who was Hoffa?
DD2 – What is radar?
DD3 – What are baths?
FJ – What is Gallipoli?
