Michael Fassbender Lands Role in Feature-Length Kung Fury 2

Kung Fury might be one of the best things to have ever happened on YouTube, a 30-minute love letter of adrenaline and parody that both riffed and paid tribute to every action hero cliche found in 80’s cinema and television. The short was largely funded via Kickstarter, but it attracted the attention of at least one big star with David Hasselhoff (who did both a short cameo and a kick-ass theme song) and millions and millions of views. A sequel was possibly inevitable, and now we’re hearing that it has another high profile talent involved: Magneto himself.

Now, sit down, the movie won’t have Ian McKellen, but it will include Michael Fassbender, who is reported to “star in” the feature-length follow-up, which may either mean that he’s playing a new character (most likely a villain) or possibly taking over the role of the titular hero. Unlike the original Kung FuryKung Fury 2 will be getting a theatrical release, so there’s also potential this won’t “only” function as a sequel so as not to confused bewildered newcomers who don’t watch awesome videos on the internet.

Not much is known about the plot yet, other than that it will involve Kung Fury’s force of Thundercops being torn apart when one of their own is killed. Also, Hitler will be back for revenge (it…um…makes sense if you’ve seen the short). The film will be produced by Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth-Grahame Smith (with Aaron Schmidt and David Katzenberg serving as co-producers), and is expected to begin shooting this summer.

What do you think, Avocados? Are you a True Survivor at the prospect of a Kung Fury movie?
