Welcome to the Book Nook! This is the weekly thread for Avocados to discuss books we’re currently reading, recommendations, genre, and serious literary criticism.
This week’s recommended discussion: We don’t all read biographies, but I sometimes run out of discussion ideas, and I’d rather do this than post a free skate. I don’t read a lot of bios, but it’s easy to find the commonalities of the ones I do – actors or authors, and often women. But it’s what makes the bios stand out that make them memorable for me – they provide context for the subjects’ lives, they offer relatable insights, they have new stories (that don’t have to be salacious). If you’re a casual or a regular reader of the medium, what makes a good biography or memoir?
One caveat: because we’re here to use our words, this is a NO GIF/YouTube/social media embed zone (the OTs are full of clutter, and I want to keep that out of this thread).
