YOUR BOX OFFICE NUMBERS (from Box Office Mojo)
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi
- Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
- Pitch Perfect 3
- The Greatest Showman
- Ferdinand
The top five held steady from last week, with three of the films making gains. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was up 38% on the same number of screens, putting it within striking distance of The Last Jedi, with a $50M vs. $52M take. This suggests strong word of mouth for Jumanj, which I would personally be adding to if I could just finish my review (UPDATE: Did it!). I found the Japanese movie poster, though, so check THAT out.
Pitch Perfect was down 15% with 21 extra theaters, but The Greatest Showman gained 310 theaters and went up 76%, and both Ferdinand and (in #6) Coco were up double digits despite losing theaters. In fact, all the held-over movies from #8 (Darkest Hour) to #23 (The Post) are up from last week, except for Downsizing, down 4.7% at #9.
The highest opener was the now Kevin Spacely-less All the Money in the World, at #7. Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game opened at #13. The heat is out in my apartment and I can barely feel my fingers right now.
