Wendy walks out onto the deck at dawn. None of you have seen her in 24 hours, and she looks like she hasn’t slept in that time.

“Who else is gone?” she asks.

“The Brazilianaire,” says Snowk Hogan, setting down his banana-flavored protein shake. “Destructotron. Jeff Angel.”

Wendy nods, and her glasses slip a little further down her nose. “Who’s been driving?”

“The TaB machine.”

She blinks. “Really?”

“We could go check,” offers Sub, but Wendy cuts him off.

“I’ve been watching some old tapes of what the league used to be like. It was good.” She runs a hand through her hair. “Two of you are traitors to Snake River Championship Wrestling, and the other three can’t tell who’s who, but that doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter who’s driving. It doesn’t matter who wins.”

“It… doesn’t?” says Glitterati, looking around. This is news to all of you.

“It’s not about winning, it’s about playing a part.” She yanks out a chair and sits in it backwards. “Everything is showmanship. Q. Steve Dougson is better at it than you, because he never breaks kayfabe.

“If we lose…” She closes her eyes and draws in a shivering breath through her nose. “My dad is going to reassign me to a zinc mine upstate. I’ll be moving piles of paper around so people can move piles of dirt around. I don’t want that. I can do more.

“You don’t win when you enter the ring. You win when you cut the promo. Stop trying to figure out who’s who and focus on how much ass you’re capable of kicking. THAT is how we’ll really win.”

She gets up and strides away.

“Did anyone understand any of that?” asks Sub.

The rest of you shake your heads. In the distance, you hear Wendy dragging the TaB machine out of the wheelhouse.
