Box Office: December 15 – 17, 2017

YOUR BOX OFFICE NUMBERS (from Box Office Mojo)

  1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  2. Ferdinand
  3. Coco
  4. Wonder
  5. Justice League

I’m kind of in a rush today, but the upshot is that The Last Jedi did very, very well – $220M on 4,200 screens – and nobody really went to see anything else. Ferdinand opened in second with $13M, which is not great on a $111M budget.

After a brief moment in the top 5, The Disaster Artist has dropped to #8, while award hopefuls Three Billboards and Lady Bird are in a slow fade. The Shape of Water (#12) continues to expand, up 117 theaters in its third week, although sadly it’s still not in a Theater Near Me. Darkest Hour, Call Me By Your Name and Wonder Wheel are also still adding theaters and climbing the chart, clustered in the mid-teens.

The only other new films were The Ballad of Lefty Brown (opening at #33 and holy shit, Peter Fonda is still working?) and Birdboy: The Forgotten Children (#34, and holy shit, this sounds rad.) I need to move somewhere with a Select Theater so I can actually see half this stuff.
