YOUR BOX OFFICE NUMBERS (from Box Office Mojo)
- Thor: Ragnarok
- A Bad Moms Christmas
- Boo! 2
Opening on 4,080 screens, Thor: Ragnarok was the far-and-away winner for the weekend with a $122M gross. Action-comedy A Bad Moms Christmas walked away with $21M, leaving the surviving October films to – somewhat impressively – move down two places while retaining the same order.
Jigsaw had a 61% dropoff in its second weekend, but still managed third place, followed by last week’s second place (Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween), last week’s third place (Geostorm), last week’s fourth place (Happy Death Day), last week’s fifth place (Blade Runner 2049), last week’s sixth place (Thank You for Your Service), and last week’s seventh place (Only the Brave), now fourth through ninth.
Geostorm is managing a remarkably dignified descent for a film that is Geostorm. It’s certainly better than Suburbicon (which opened in ninth and is now 13th) is getting. The Snowman, subject of the Avocado’s current werewolf game (run by me!) is now 33rd, with an 86% drop since last week.
Let There Be Light, a Christian film about an atheist finding faith after almost dying, dropped only 1.9%. This sounds impressive until the theater count is factored in; it did that while gaining 269 theaters.
Woody Harrelson IS Lyndon Johnson in LBJ, the only other new film to open in the top 20, making $1.1M on 659 screens.
