Werewolf XXXV: D&D, Day 1: Wolves of Autumn Twilight

“I will do this. Nothing in my life matters except this. No moment in my life exists except this moment. I am born in this moment, and if I fail, I will die in this moment.” — Raistlin Majere

Dragon Con has room for fans of just about anything even faintly related to science fiction and fantasy. However, this year, in breakout room A706 of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, it turns out there isn’t room for everyone, as some ambitious clerk has overbooked the space. Three angry groups of Live Action Role Players (LARPers) stand in the room shouting at each other as the bemused concierge slowly retreats.

“We reserved this room weeks ago,” hisses a leather-clad vampire through costume fangs.

“Fvck off!” replies a ruddy halfling in barrel boots. “I booked it with points in February.”

“Well we called to confirm our reservation yesterday,” interrupts a cyborg flourishing a glowing, battery-operated staff. “The room is ours!”

As the bickering grows more heated, and more facsimile weapons are drawn, the bored dragon, Con, notices and snickers at the humans’ foolishness. “They play at magic,” she muses to herself. “I will show them real magic.”

With a lazy flick of her talons, Con transports the LARPers to a realm they often dreamed of but probably won’t enjoy as much as they imagined: Krynn. As the players stand dazed outside the Inn of the Last Home, they hear a voice: “Win the Mac Guffin to return home. Find your true enemies and allies, or perish.”

Alignments
15 Town (Good)
3 Red Dragons (Lawful Evil)
3 Black Dragons (Chaotic Evil)
** Note: At the Merge, one Townsperson will become a Serial Killer (Chaotic Neutral).

Each player has been assigned an alignment, a campaign, and a race/class or clan. Other than making sure that you stick to your basic character template, your role play within the game can be as rudimentary (e.g., “Um, yeah, I’m a dwarf fighter, arrr”) or as complex (e.g., “Greetings, I am a Duergar stonereaver who left the Underdark after killing a Drow priestess of Lolth on the road to Menzoberranzan”) as you prefer.

At the beginning of the game, players are divided into three campaigns: Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and Vampire: The Masquerade. At some point, these campaigns will merge into one; until then, each campaign has its own QT and ability to kill one player (of any campaign) each night. Each Dragon faction also has its own QT and the ability to night kill; these Dragon QTs and night kills will remain in place even after the Merge. Keep in mind that the Dragons are randomly (and not necessarily evenly) dispersed amongst the campaigns, and their true loyalty is to their Dragon alignment. Lynch voting will occur daily on the OT as usual.

For the duration of the game, if the same player is targeted for a night kill by multiple factions/campaigns/players, that kill will be negated.

Each day until the Merge (see above), one member of each campaign will be randomly (RNG) selected to choose a player of another campaign to protect that night. Each campaign will be told who that campaign’s “protector” is each day, but the protector will post his/her official selection in his/her individual QT. If that player doesn’t respond in time, the protected person will be chosen by RNG.

When the Merge occurs, Town will lose the (collective) ability to night kill but gain a Bard (cop/detective) and a Healer (doctor). Each Dragon faction (assuming both have survived to the Merge) will gain a Vandal (role blocker) as well. The SK will also be activated (from amongst surviving Townspeople) at the Merge. The SK will not know (s)he is the SK until the Merge. Other roles or powers may be assigned at the Merge as well.

When a player is targeted by a day or night action (including lynching), that player will get a save roll (made by the moderator, using a D20) to determine whether the action takes place. Each day, surviving players will level up, improving their chances of a successful save roll. (Note: The save roll is automatic even if the action would benefit the target [e.g., the Bard investigates a Townsperson]). The SK will enjoy slightly better save roll odds than the other players once activated at the Merge. See your individual QT for additional information about save rolls.

*****
I have created a mini-wiki QT with some common terminology and rules for the Avocado’s version of Werewolf/Mafia. Refer to it if needed, especially if you’re a new player. All players are also encouraged to add to it as they see fit.

You vote by replying to the very first comment, appropriately titled VOTE THREAD. It is easy to find if you sort comments by oldest. To change or withdraw your vote, simply post another reply. DO NOT EDIT OR DELETE ANY VOTE. Only votes posted as a direct reply to the official VOTE THREAD will count.

Note that if the vote is tied at Twilight (end of day), there will be a runoff vote between the tied players, with Twilight extended by one hour. If the runoff vote also results in a tie, another player besides the tied players will be randomly selected for death.

Please make at least 3 posts per game-day, or you will be replaced or mod-killed.

DO NOT EDIT POSTS even if you made a grammatical error that is haunting you. Rather, read through and think carefully about your comment before posting it. Editing a post may get you mod-killed, and that would be sad.

DO NOT QUOTE OR POST A SCREENSHOT FROM A QT TO THE MAIN DAY OPEN THREAD (OT) OR SHARED QT. You are free to make claims about your powers and alignment wherever, but those claims will not be confirmed or denied by the moderator.

Days will typically last 24 hours unless a majority vote is reached before that. A typical night will last 12 hours. Day/Night lengths may be adjusted if necessary.

If you have questions that may reveal sensitive information, you can ask them in your individual QT. You are encouraged to ask questions about the rules of the game, how your powers work, and whatever else comes to mind.

Attack arguments, not people. Players have different playing styles; be accommodating to them. Role playing is welcome but not required (though do try to be generally consistent with the setting and your race/class or clan). Finally, remember that it’s just a game, and have fun!
