The Weekly Wrestling Thread Starts a Dynasty

AEW Dynasty was this past weekend and goddamn what a show it was. Let’s review the matches.

-Trent Beretta defeats Chuck Taylor. A fun opening match and a good lead-in for what should be a good feud with Beretta and Orange Cassidy. 3 stars
-Orange Cassidy and Katsuyori Shibata defeat Shane Taylor Productions. Very good match, Cassidy and Shibata put on a great show here. 3 and a half stars
-Bullet Club Gold defeat The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn. For the love of god, I hope this is the end of their feud. This match wasn’t terrible but good lord do I not care about this feud. Also, what the fuck was up was up with Max Caster’s rap before entering the ring. 2 stars
-Kazuchika Okada defeats PAC. I was really rooting for PAC here, he could really use a title after being out with injuries for most of last year (even if it’s a lesser title like the Continental Title). He didn’t win but he put on such a great show against Okada that I think he’s reminded everyone who forgot about him why he’s a GOAT. 4 and a half stars
-House of Black defeat Adam Copeland, Mark Briscoe, and Eddie Kingston. A great trios match. Copeland, Briscoe, and Kingston seemed like an odd trio but they have great ring chemistry and put on a great show with HoB. 4 stars
-Willow Nightingale defeats Julia Hart. This match was very sloppy at points but I overall enjoyed it. The people on CageMatch really didn’t care for it but they can be overly harsh at times (but at least it’s not the worst rated match on the card). 2 and a half stars
-Roderick Strong defeats Kyle O’Reilly. This match didn’t have much of a build but it was great from an in-ring perspective. Hope this isn’t the end of this storyline, there’s more that can be done here. 4 stars
-Chris Jericho defeats Hook. If I never saw Chris Jericho wrestle again, I would be a happy man. The best part of this match was the audience just fucking roasting Jericho. The worst part is that it’s probably going to lead to an embarrassingly meta, Russo-esque promo tomorrow night. Ugh. 1 star
-Toni Storm defeats Thunder Rosa. I don’t particularly care for Toni Storm matches but this was a good one. Of course, after that crime against the squared circle that was the last match, anything would be an improvement. 3 and a half stars
-Will Ospreay defeats Bryan Danielson. Yeah, this was alright I guess. 5 stars
-The Young Bucks defeat FTR. I called everything about this match (especially the ending) but it’s still a great match. I am a sucker for ladder matches after all. 4 and a half stars
-Swerve Strickland defeats Samoa Joe. A great match and a great finish to a great show (when Jericho wasn’t on-screen). I hope Swerve Strickland has a long reign. He’s earned it. 4 and a half stars
