Hi, friends.  Our bird this week is the great blue heron, which I really want to write with a comma after “great.”  Befitting its name, it is the largest heron in north America.  The great blue heron has a very … Continue reading The WPT Eats Anything in Sight

Hi, WPT. I didn’t get a ton of time off in the last couple of weeks, so I took a day and a half off at the end of this one to sit around. As a result, please enjoy this … Continue reading The WPT Says New Year, New Emu

Howdy, friends.  I hope everyone who celebrated or is currently celebrating a solstice-adjacent festival had/is having a good one as the case may be.  Your fearless WPT host flew back home on the 25th, having agreed to work the 26th, … Continue reading The WPT Finally Circles Back to Feral Hogs

Hello, friends.  Our bird this week is the Great Potoo, a relative of the frogmouth we learned about a few weeks ago.  Like the frogmouth, it has large eyes, a broad mouth, and an uncanny ability to blend in with … Continue reading The WPT Strikes in the Night

Howdy friends.  This week’s bird is the shoebill or shoebill stork.  This vaguely threatening looking bird was long thought to be related to storks on account of how it really looks like one, but genetic testing recently revealed it is … Continue reading The WPT Hunts by Lurking

Howdy, friends.  This week’s bird is the grey crowned crane.  This bird has a dizzying array of AKAs I will not transcribe here, because frankly none of them are funny.  The gray crowned crane is found throughout Africa, especially in … Continue reading The WPT Joins in the Dance
