News and Results

• College basketball season is officially underway! The season officially kicked off in Rome with Notre Dame beating Villanova in both mens’ and womens’ hoops. The Pope, a Villanova alumnus, spoke to the teams before the game but was too busy doing something called “Sunday mass” to attend. #1 ranked women’s team South Carolina kicked off their season with a win in Paris, while the traditional men’s opening season marathon included top-ranked Florida knocking off Miami and UCLA upsetting #5 Arizona.
• The Chicago Bears scored an impressive win on Monday Night Football, leading wire-to-wire as they defeated the reigning Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks in their home stadium. The Seahawks now face the danger of not even making the playoffs, with a 4-4 record and a challenging schedule ahead.
• On the college side of the gridiron, the playoff committee released their first official rankings Tuesday, and at the risk of opining too much it’s the worst poll you were going to see yesterday. Seriously, undefeated UCLA below multiple two-loss SEC teams? 5-3 Oregon ranked? At least in the 12-team era most of these teams can still make it if they win out.
