Alexander Volkanovski celebrates his win at UFC 333 while Movsar Evloev politely claps.

Sportacados Discussion Thread for October 26-27, 2026

This is the Sportacados Discussion Thread, for talking about all things sports! Feel free to live-chat games, talk about the latest news and rumours, discuss sports history, and anything else that relates to watching other grown adults throw or hit a ball. Hateration is allowed, but try to keep it within the realm of light banter.

News and Results

  • UFC held one of their most talent-rich shows of the year this weekend, UFC 333, which of course was bought and paid for by Abu Dhabi. In the main event, Alexander Volkanovski defended his title by knockout against Movsar Evloev, becoming the first man to defeat Evloev and adding to his all-time great credentials. Before that, Petr Yan came back from two rounds down to defeat Merab Dvalashvili by decision, winning the trilogy match between them and retaining his bantamweight crown.
  • The World Artistic Gymnastics Championship saw American Skye Blakely come back from rupturing her Achilles before the 2024 Olympics Trials to capture the individual all-around gold medal and two individual apparatus bronzes. The US didn’t bring their household names but still got silver in the women’s team competition, second behind China. On the men’s side of things, Japan won the team gold, with Daiki Hashimoto also becoming the individual all-around champion.
  • A season of college football chaos continued this Saturday, with #2 BYU falling in overtime to unranked UCF after a bizarre end-of-game sequence, and Texas dragging Ole Miss down into the morass of two-loss SEC teams. G6 hopeful James Madison also lost on Thursday night, meaning that there are only three undefeated teams, the fewest at this point in the season since 1977 – a mostly-unlikely trio of Miami, UCLA and Utah.
  • NASCAR had one of its biggest races this past year at Talladega Speedway, where if you’re not first you’re last. Kyle Larson staged a last-lap comeback to win what is apparently now known as the Yellawood 500, but fans criticized the race for conservative strategy. Formula 1 also held a big race in the US, with Kimi Antonelli continuing his dominance at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.
  • The Milwaukee Brewers have taken a 2-0 lead in the World Series following a pari of home victories, including coming back from a 4-0 deficit against Tampa Bay’s ace Drew Rasmussen. The Brewers are now 9-1 in the postseason, having trailed in 8 of those wins. The Rays will get to play the next three games in the devilish confines of the Trop, but their backs are against the wall.
  • The NBA season has just started, but the attrition element of 82 games has already begun. Oklahoma City star Jalen Williams, also known as J-Dub or Wing Jalen, suffered a gruesome leg injury during a game last night. Paola Banchero and Jalen Duren also suffered injuries which are expected to keep them out multiple weeks, while Ben Simmons’ attempt at a comeback was derailed by a torn Achilles.
