The Knicks raise their 2025-26 World Champions banner.

Sportacados Discussion Thread for October 21-22, 2026

This is the Sportacados Discussion Thread, for talking about all things sports! Feel free to live-chat games, talk about the latest news and rumours, discuss sports history, and anything else that relates to watching other grown adults throw or hit a ball. Hateration is allowed, but try to keep it within the realm of light banter.

News and Results

  • The NBA tipped off its 2026-27 season last night, or more specifically yesterday afternoon with a new early game between the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics. The Pistons came back from a 20-point deficit to win, giving us an early reminder that the sign never sleeps. The Knicks hung their championship banner (as well as their NBA Cup banner), but lost to Sixers (now with added LeBron and Brunson), while the Thunder reminded everyone that they’re still a machine with a win over the Spurs.
  • The World Series matchup is set, and it’s a battle between two teams that have never won the October Classic before. The Tampa Bay Rays won the ALCS in 6, while the Milwaukee Brewers swept the NLCS. Two smaller-market teams meeting in the World Series is already being used as an argument against a salary cap, although the fact that neither of these model franchises have won a championship before now undercuts it a bit.
  • Ohio State head coach Ryan Day (boo! hiss!) announced that quarterback Julian Sayin will be out indefinitely after injuring his throwing arm. This is one of several quarterback injuries that have had a big impact in college football this year, including UCLA’s Nico Iamaleava, Mississippi State’s Kamario Taylor, and Pitt’s Mason Heintschel, the latter two of which have already derailed promising runs. Ohio State seems better set up to survive a QB absence, but it still could pose an issue to their national title ambitions.
