October is AAC Awareness Month. Have some graphics!

AAC stands for Augmentive and Alternative Communication, and it refers to communication without using speech or in addition to speech. It can either supplement speech or be an alternative to speech for people who cannot speak.
I have talked a lot on this site about how my daughter has been using an AAC because she’s nonverbal, but many people with physical disabilities also use AAC to help them communicate. It can also be used temporarily, like after surgery or in an emergency, or while someone is dysregulated. Also, using AAC does not prevent a child from learning to talk, it supplements speech therapy and many kids who use it go on to later be verbal adults.

If you’d like to learn more about AAC, this website is an excellent resource about who can benefit from this great technology.
Thanks for reading, and have a great day, avocados!
