News and Results
- The heirarchy of power in the college football universe has changed, as #1 Texas succumbed to the weirdness of the Red River Rivalry and fell to Oklahoma. Georgia is the new top of the pile after a close win over Alabama, while LSU and Oregon also suffered upset losses. In other news, James Madison University will be moving to the American Athletic Conference by 2028, after being one of the best Group of 6 teams for the past few years.
- The WNBA Finals are set, after the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries both won their semifinals series 3-0. While the 2 vs. 3 seed isn’t that surprising a matchup, the teams involved are, as the Valkyries are in their second year of existence and the Dream haven’t been to the finals since 2013. The Finals are so shocking that the Dream may not be able to play in State Farm Arena due to previous commitments, forcing them to move to the 3500-seat Gateway Center.
- In tennis, Zheng Qinwen won the China Open title in her home country, marking a successful comeback from the injury that saw her drop out of the top 100. She received a truly giant cup for her victory. Novak Djokovic won the men’s side of the tournament earlier in the week, his 102nd ATP title (1 fewer than the record held by Federer), but it was a weird tournament marked by walkovers and retirements, including in the finals.
