The Day Thread Ranks The Police’s Albums: #5

This is part of a series of mini-reviews of The Police’s studio albums, ranked worst to best. (Don’t worry; I’ll keep them short.)

#5: Outlandos d’Amour.

This is The Police’s worst album, but that doesn’t make it a BAD album. In fact, it’s very good. But it was their first record, and they hadn’t quite nailed their distinctive sound yet. This is as much punk as Police. It also has a lot of jamming mixed in with numbers like Peanuts and Masoko Tanga.

BEST SONGS: Next To You, Roxanne, Can’t Stand Losing You.

WORST SONGS: Easily—Sally, by Andy Summers. The lead in, Be My Girl (by Sting), is quite catchy. But I don’t need a song about a sex doll, thank you very much, sir. The beginning of his rather peculiar songwriting.

Just love Sting’s glasses and bowtie.
