• Carlos Alcaraz announced that he will be returning to tennis at the US Open this year, ending a lengthy injury absence. We’ll have to see what shape he’s in, but it’s a positive sign for avoiding another Zverev grand slam win. In negative signs, Jannik Sinner announced that he will be missing the tournament with an ongoing knee injury.
• WNBA star Nneka Ogwumike announced that this will be her final season in the league. Nneka won the league MVP in 2016 alongside the league championship with the LA Sparks, and was an 11-time All-Star. Ogwumike is also a major part of the Players Association and helped to negotiate the “transformative” deal earlier this year.
• The Premier League starts this afternoon! The transfer window continues, with Tottenham Hotspur signing 22-year-old Savinho from Manchester City. Spurs have now spent over 300 million pounds on signings this summer, including club-record Sandro Tonali, Mateus Feranndes and Jan Paul van Hecke, after barely escaping relegation last season.
