The Day Thread Ranks Paul McCartney’s Albums: #2

This is part of a series of mini-reviews of Paul McCartney’s studio albums, ranked worst to best. (Don’t worry; I’ll keep them short.)

Number Two: Band On The Run, Paul McCartney & Wings.

WHY IT’S GREAT: Paul’s comeback album, recorded as a trio with Linda and Denny. He was pressed in a corner physically and emotionally and responded with greatness. This album dominated 1974.

BEST SONGS: Band On The Run; Jet; Bluebird; Mrs Vandebilt; Picasso’s Last Words (Drink To Me); Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five.

WORST SONGS: There are none.

WHY YOU SHOULD HEAR IT: If you don’t love this album, then forget about Paul McCartney. This is his peak in the Seventies.

Keith Moon asked Paul who drummed on this. He was amazed to hear that Paul had done it himself.
