News and Results

* The Toronto Tempo lost to the Indiana Fever, extending their losing streak to 11. However, more importantly they unveiled their new mascots, Dez the Snapping Turtle (she/they) and Dot the Arctic Hare (she/her.) Who better to represent Toronto than a nonbinary snapping turtle from Muskoka?

* The Milwaukee Brewers put up an eye-popping 22-0 win over the Seattle Mariners last night. This score ties the modern record for the most runs scored in a shutout, a mark that has only been recorded three times since 1901. But on the plus side for Seattle, Seahawks season starts soon.

* Today on As the Basketball Turns, there’s more drama surrounding the sale of the LA Lakers, as five members of the Buss family have voted to sell their minority share of the team. This has been contested by Jeanie Buss, who has been the most active and visible member of the family and says that the others don’t have the authority to do this. Lakers owner Mark Walter is also apparently looking to offload his ownership stakes in the Dodgers and Chelsea as he faces federal investigation. Selling could threaten the Dodgers’ weird bankruptcy/TV rights deal with the MLB that has fueled much of their spending, but this is where it gets too complicated for me to understand.
