It’s Buddy was a children’s TV series that aired at some point during the 90s, although finding an exact timeline for when and even where it aired is much easier said than done. Yes, it’s one of those shows. No one bothered to catalog this thing in any capacity, making almost all of It’s Buddy “lost media”–there aren’t even any full episodes of it uploaded anywhere online as far as I can tell. Ugh.

Basically, from what I gather, It’s Buddy was more or less a knock-off of Barney & Friends, only It’s Buddy never got referenced on The Simpsons, so I guess most people just ignored it. I vaguely remember it being around and finding the talking mailbox and talking sofa creepy (I think it was on UPN?). I’d use the “I was a little kid, meaning everything scared me” excuse, except I’m pretty sure I was like ten or eleven years old when Buddy was “huge,” so I guess I was a big baby (also, why do I so vividly recall a mailbox from something I didn’t even watch???).

Wait…I haven’t talked about who “Buddy” is. Well, he’s a unicorn. Kinda. Really, he looks more like a horse with a horn on his head, which…I guess technically makes him a unicorn. A very thicc unicorn. I’m sure if the series had been more popular he would’ve become a DeviantArt icon. Unfortunately, when you mention It’s Buddy to anyone online, chances are they’ll think you’re talking about 1997’s major motion picture Buddy. You know, the one with the gorilla. The Jim Henson Company made it. You know. Buddy. C’mon now. I didn’t make it up. There was this scene where the gorilla put on lipstick and danced around with a ribbon in front of a fireplace and…wait, maybe I did make that movie up.
I’m sorry. I thought I’d have more material to work with here, but I wasn’t kidding earlier when I said information on It’s Buddy is virtually impossible to come by. There’s no IMDB page. No Wikipedia. There might be a TV Tropes page, but c’mon, they have a listing there for any shit they feel like these days. Can I find a production company for It’s Buddy? No. Can I find a cast listing for It’s Buddy? Also no. Can Buddy do The Macarena? Apparently, he can. But I think this is just some weird fan video and not anything from the actual series. Still, sweet moves, Buddy.
Argh. For once I’ve found a topic that’s too obscure even for me. I thought Roxanne’s Best Christmas Ever was a barren wasteland of information in terms of where the fuck it came from, but now I realize how wrong I was. Heck, I was able to learn more about fucking Baby Rapper, and that thing was probably illegal! Maybe someone did time for Baby Rapper and I can make a header on that someday. But until someone out there starts posting actual footage of It’s Buddy & Friends on YouTube or whatever, all we’re left with are a bunch of out-of-context clips and comments from random influencers who sort of kind of recall it being around as they try to sell you organic soap from their cars. I suppose it’s possible one day all of my questions will be answered (seriously, what was with that mailbox?). Although I may be the only one who cares when they are.
Be safe, be well, be you. I love you.
