The Tabletop Games Thread Reports (8/5/26)

Welcome back to the weekly Tabletop Games thread! This thread is where we can talk about all kinds of RPGs, card games, board games, etc. Whether you gather around a physical table in the real world, or use a virtual space to play with friends who may live far away from you, this is where you can discuss your favorites, ask for and/or receive recommendations, recap your recent adventures, or even find some people to play games with!

Discussion Prompt: Gen Con 2026 happened last week, and there were a ton of announcements made about D&D and other tabletop games. There was news about upcoming releases from Arkham Horror, Call of Cthulhu, Lord of the Rings: The One Ring, Daggerheart, Cosmere, and many more. And, of course, Dungeons & Dragons made a bunch of major announcements including:

  • The return of the Dark Sun campaign setting, billed as the first “mature-rated” setting for D&D 5.5e
  • A crossover with World of Warcraft, which is already available for pre-order
  • A Star Wars crossover announced for 2027
  • Collaborations with Tracy Hickman, Luke Gygax, and RA Salvatore to bring new settings guides and adventures for Dragonlance, Greyhawk, and the Forgotten Realms, respectively.
  • A full-length Greyhawk adventure called Crown of the Witch Queen
  • Third-party partnerships with Ghostfire Gaming, Visionary Productions, and Kobold Press, featuring content for Ravenloft, Eberron, and the Forgotten Realms, respectively
  • Enhancements for D&DBeyond, including a new “Looking for Group” feature
