* MVP MMA, who put on one event on Netflix this past spring featuring Ronda Rousey destroying a middle-aged D-list actress, has announced that it is merging with the Professional Fighters League, a mostly inept MMA B-League. This merger will ideally combine MVP’s platform, access to Netflix and ability to put on freak show and influencer fights with PFL’s roster of actually skilled fighters to create a company that can challenge the UFC in North America. Which could be a good thing if it didn’t mean the sport was now a promotional battle between Dana White and Jake Paul, two of the worst people in the world today.
* Speaking of the worst people in the world, Gianni Infantino has seemingly alienated everyone with his plans to sell off a share in the world cup to private equity (which just happens to be owned by a relative of the current US President.) UEFA have threatened to boycott all future FIFA events if the deal isn’t permanently withdrawn, while CONCACAF and AFC have also expressed their opposition. Infantino is still pushing ahead, with a vote to expand the World Cup to 64 teams a not-so-subtle attempt to appeal to smaller countries, but it is hard to see how this goes through if all the countries in these federations stick to their guns.
