* France have officially announced Zinedine Zidane as their next men’s football national team coach. In addition to being a national icon, Zidane also led a team full of individualistic stars to trophies at Real Madrid, so he seems like the perfect fit for this France squad. Despite reports Italy would hire Andrea Pirlo (including by me), they instead re-hired Roberto Mancini, who previously resigned in 2023. Not so easy to find a coach who doesn’t suck, huh?
* It’s signing season in the NFL as training camps start up. The Philadelphia Eagles signed Jalen Carter to a four-year extension, making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in league history, while his fellow DT Vita Vea has reportedly requested a trade from the Buccaneers. In more bad news for the Bucs, QB Baker Mayfield declined to sign an extension and will test the waters of free agency after the upcoming season, as he continues his quixotic journey around the league.
