Movieacados! I know I have gone on about my self a lot in the past, but also I have good reason to because today I can officially announce to you that I have met with my doctor and have been officially diagnosed as cancer free… Officially! And that got me thinking about other things that are free. Growing up as a burgeoning movie nerd in the 80s we did not have things like people today have them, most specifically streaming. No there was a hierarchy to movie watching that went: Theatre -> VHS/Movie Networks a few months later -> Network TV a few months after that. Network TV being the equivalent of ‘free’ watching, we did in fact get two free channels growing up and one of them piggybacked off a few networks so we got more free movies that way.

I grew up in small town Newfoundland, well medium size Newfoundland, small by pretty much any other metric. Our town had one screen, we had two video stores and there was one guy down the road who had a satellite dish, but it took up pretty much his entire back yard. One screen meant we got the big releases only and they would not stay long, Our two video stores meant that they were both one room and the clerk could see 10-12 year old me eyeing the R-Rated movies and make it clear it was not going to happen (I later moved to a larger city that had apathetic clerks who let me rent whatever). But every so often movies I wanted to see slipped through and made it to regular television. Conan movies, Mad Max, Dune (Lynch), and the Magical World of Disney (seriously, Sunday night that was a big deal for us for some years). I remember a lot of the movies I love today (and a few I do not) because of the experience, the anticipation and the finally getting to experience that thing that has been eluding you (it’s like finally catching the Road Runner).

So we are now free to declare this weeks prompt: Do you have any Free Movie stories, memories or favourites? Maybe the movie itself was not free but it is titled free, like Freejack… or Free Willy, either way have fun and discuss.
