The Suspicious Day Thread (7/23/26)

Good morning! I woke up this morning with two questions in my heart: 1) Did I sign up for a Day Thread today and forget, and 2) Why is it abbreviated “unsub”?

The answer to question #1 is, of course I did, so I jumped to my burning question #2: Why, if it stands for “unidentified suspect” or “unknown suspect,” is it “unsub” and not “unsus” or “unsup” or even “unsuct” (okay, I think I know why it’s not “unsuct”).

Anyway, the Internet has informed me that it’s actually unknown or unidentified subject, not suspect. In fact, the Criminal Minds wiki says that a “suspect” is a known target of inquiry, while a “subject” is an unknown person of interest requiring profiling to whittle down the pool of guest actors.

Have a great Day Thread, Avocados!
